THE FIRE DISTRICT
The Netarts-Oceanside Fire District is 17 square miles, with a response area of 40 square miles located on the North Oregon coast. We serve a full time population of 1100 people with summertime populations that can fluctuate to three or four times that. The District provides fire, EMS (non-transport), rope, and water rescue services to the district as well as numerous other emergency and non-emergency services to the community. The district responded to 160 emergency calls for service in the year 2017. The Fire District operates out of two stations. The Netarts station is the main station, most fire district activities (administration, training, and response) take place out of the Netarts station. The Netarts station houses a 2001 Boise Mobile 1500 gpm pumper, a 1999 ford 550 crew cab with a 300 gallon slip-in, two STX15F Kawasaki jet skis, a 1997 ford F350 crew-cab w/150 gallon slip-in, and a 2017 Ford F150 (QRT). The Oceanside station operates as a sub-station with exercise equipment The Oceanside station houses a 2006 Ford F450 extended cab with a 250 gallon tank and pump, and a 1967 Ford 750 gpm back-up pumper (in the budget to be replaced).
Netarts and Oceanside is the combination of two small unincorporated communities on the North Oregon coast in Tillamook County, six miles west of the city of Tillamook. A very picturesque community bordered on three sides with forest land and State park, with the Netarts Bay and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The community has a full time population that is over half retirees with a large absentee property ownership, which creates a small volunteer pool to draw from. Although we have a strong base group of volunteers, volunteer recruitment and retention is a constant concern for all members of the fire district.
