Burn Ban

Due to extreme fire risk during summer months, outside burning is banned from July until October.  Exact dates may change based on weather conditions.  Historically, the Burn Ban is in effect from July 1st until October 15th.

During the Burn Ban small recreational fires may be allowed on the beaches or private properties.

Beach Fires

  1. Build fires AT LEAST 50 FEET AWAY from driftwood, beach grass, and any other combustibles.
  2. When you’re done with your beach fire - DO NOT bury with sand!  Extinguish fires with water and leave the remnants visible so any still-hot embers are visible.
  3. Covering fires with sand injures dozens of dogs and children every year with they step into covered, but still burning coals.

Recreational Backyard Fires

  1. Recreational Backyard Fires must have a valid burn permit unless within a commercial park.
  2. Recreational Backyard Fires must be contained in a noncombustible structure with at least three sides being a minimum of eight (8) inches high.
  3. Recreational Backyard Fires must have at least a 25 foot clearance around and 12 foot clearance above the fire pit.
  4. Recreational backyard fires must be attended at ALL times, and must be extinguished with water.  Thoroughly soak coals to prevent wildfires!

If your fire is too large or gets out of control, the Fire Department will extinguish it, and has the authority to bill for the cost.
